With only a few days left to go in Bali/Indonesia we checked ourselves into a glamourous resort – hot water AND comfy beds – to enjoy what little time was left.

(The last dinner with mum)

Trying to avoid Australians (and bogans) we stayed in Sanur, slightly further north than Kuta and on a different part of the island. Definitely less Australians (and bogans) and more expats. But with hot water and comfy beds in our hotel we didn’t have much time to explore 🙂

Sanur’s beach isn’t the greatest, but beach clubs from the glamourous hotels were still lined up along the sand. Like the rest of Asia the European tourist moved their sun beds around to ensure they got the full extent of the suns rays. One hundred and fifty metres off the beach was a reef causing waves to crash and form a surf break. The people swimming could be counted on one hand.

(Offerings on the pier)

We took a walk along the promenade to see what was happening. Kites. Kites were clearly happening, with both adults and children out flying kites. While it may have been tempting to purchase my own kite and get amongst it, it had clearly been years (and years and years) since I had flown a kite, so I was relegated to the sidelines. Apparently there is a kite festival this month so everyone was out practicing. Some clearly needed more practice than others.

(You could rent bikes with car steering wheels – fabulous!)
I also took time to enjoy my last experience in Asia for awhile. My next destination is Mexico (via Seoul and LA) and I am more than a little sad to be leaving this part of the world. My heart has been in Asia for so many years that I’m not sure what to expect being somewhere else. But, travelling through Central & South America has been my dream for so long and I am looking forward to embarking on the next part of my journey.
A little step may be the beginning of a great journey.’ Anon.

(About to get on a plane and ready for the next part!)
