Getting up in the dark at 6am isn’t always a fun start to the day, but it does make you feel like you are on holidays. Today’s destination, Koh Tachai.
Living so close to such a beautiful part of the world would make you think that I should go more often. But, as is often the case, you don’t visit somewhere that is on your own doorstep.
An hour and a half minivan trip later (with coffee – thanks Sharon!) we arrived at Khao Lak, our departure point. So often in Thailand you deal with companies who don’t have the greatest standards, however this trip was different. The company was professional, friendly and even gave us breakfast. A very pleasant surprise!
(They surprised us with Valentines chocolates!)
After a quick briefing and me testing out my flippers by walking around the pier, we set off. After and hour and a half (and the engines only cutting out once) we arrived at a stunningly pristine beach. Powder white sand, acqua blue water and tropical rainforest mountains. Perfect.

Unlike so many other tours, we weren’t shuttled around from place to place. Rather we had time to enjoy the location. We got to snorkel in 2 locations with incredible visibility. I saw Nemo and a unicorn fish!
The rest of the afternoon was spent eating and swimming, with a short trip to the view point thrown in.
As with most things in Thailand, our viewpoint walk was very casual. No shoes on the boat meant a barefoot walk through the rainforest to the other side.
Such a beautiful day with beautiful people 🙂
