We had high hopes for Oaxaca (pronounced Warharka) especially after having to survive a 11hr overnight bus to get there!

Our first day was almost a write off as we were too tired to do much. But over the next few days we explored the city by bike. The town has a gorgeous centre square full of people and activity. Buskers played, couples gathered there to make out and at night bands would play so people could do couples dancing. Very adorable!

There are also some amazing churches. I have seen ALOT of churches this trip, but the church of Santa Domingo possibly takes the cake. It was quite incredible – gilded with gold and ornate designs and beautiful paintings. Despite all this Oaxaca seemed to lack the charm and atmosphere of other towns we had seen. Still worth a visit though.

(Looks like a normal church from the outside, right?)

It was here that we met Marquis & Luciano, two hilarious American guys who kept us in stitches the whole time. We all jumped in the back of a ute and explored market day in the next town over. The market was insanely huge & we were the only gringos there. Might explain the strange looks we received trying on cowboy hats…

Oaxaca was also the site of another legendary night out. We headed to an Irish pub to watch the rugby, however the pub turned out to be a biker pub with a heavy metal covers band. Fabulous! We moved on to a bar closer into town, this time with a band playing not only (great) covers, but also Mexican songs. Had there been boxes in the bar Angela and I would have been dancing on them. At one point we lost Neo, our shy Japanese friend, however he was found encircled by girls and having vodka poured into his mouth by a random guy on the dance floor. Insane! Thanks to all involved in yet another fabulous night out!
