It has been 3 months since I left Thailand and I feel that my brain was turning into mush. While traveling is great, sometimes I need to feel like I am actually learning something. So when I was in San Pedro I enrolled for some classes.

I had done my research and been looking at places to do some alternative healing courses. Reiki was high on my list, as was another massage course. I had scoped out where I wanted to be and so as soon as I arrived I emailed them about when I could start. The next day! I was going to do Reiki and Kinesiology.

My school days involve getting up to eat breakfast overlooking the lake and the mountains – stunning – before making a 10 min journey across the lake to san Marcos. It really is such a great way to start a day. My Reiki course lasted 3 days then it was Kinesiology for 9 days. I was a real student!

San Marcos is probably the most alternative place in Guatemala. Hippies from around the world have found their way there and never left. You can do courses in anything from massage to hoola hooping to yoga to meditation. We had class in a little hut in a beautiful garden, mostly while listening to the rain.

Most afternoons it would rain, meaning my walk to the pier would leave me soaked and the boat captain laughing at me trying to juggle my umbrella and stay dry while climbing into the boat. Most afternoons I would be joined on board by locals on their way home, chickens and hippy tourists. An interesting combination.
