Once upon a time there were four girls. Who liked red wine. And port. And white wine too for that matter – but it is far too cold to think about that at the moment!
I find myself on the eve of another adventure (albeit a little one), so thought I blog about it…but first there is much to update on!
So, wedding number 5 was a fabulous success! Ruth and Aaron’s wedding was nothing but stunning and perfect. A morning wedding by the Brisbane river, with perfect couple, gorgeous weather and a wonderful celbrant. What more can you ask for! Look how perfect their engagment photos are!
The bride turned up early, as expected, and as such I held her off until all the guests who were fashionably late arrived. Ruth was super calm and collected, and looked like the ultimate bride. She walked down the isle to Pachelbel’s Canon in D Major (and yes, I can spell it correctly as I downloaded it for the rehersal!) and the guests got to view Ruthy and her dad as she made her way down the long isle, and to the lawn where we were all waiting. Aaron was made to wait until she was at the top of the isle to see her – Nat is tough celebrant!
Their vows were beautiful, and Aaron got a little teary. I knew Ruthy would be teary (I think we all knew that!), but bets were on as to whether or not Aaron would. I lost…thanks Aaron! Ava was the ringbearer, and managed to get them to mum and dad without swallowing them, which was a very real fear up until then! But, one of my favourite moments which I think made the wedding, was the ‘house handshake’. Ruthy, I can see you shaking your head reading this, but I thought it was great! Ruth and Aaron have a silly handshake they do, and after the kiss, they did the handshake. It just showed what a truely perfect couple they are.
Post all the official stuff (of which Nat did such a great job!), it was time for the fun stuff! Lunch by the river, with dancing, cake and champagne. Instead of the usual bonbonniere, they had a lolly buffet, which went down a treat! We all got to take a little box of handpicked lollies home. Very cool! We ate and drank, and poor Ava got passed around to everyone. Though, I think she loved it with me the most, as Claire and I fed her chocolate cake…sorry mum! hehehe….

So, after Ruthy’s wedding I only have one to go….Char’s. And, as a bridesmaid, my first official duty is the hen’s night. I was given instructions about what was and wasn’t too happen….and I listened to some of it! We had dinner at Southbank at a tapas bar, which was really nice. The bride got a veil (which she thought she wasn’t going to get and was quite sad about!), flashing sash (which didn’t flash!) and a badge, complete with her photo. All very attractive let me assure you!
At dinner, Char was quizzed about all the things she does (…or doesn’t know…) about Ben while we all made her drink as much champagne as possible. A pre-requisite for any hen’s night! She was presented with a list of tasks, some of which cannot be named, to complete throughout the night, and with that in mind, it was of to Chalk Hotel.
As we were one bridesmaid down, the rest of the guests stepped up to help ensure the Hen’s challenges were met. However, we didn’t have to work too hard, the bride charged off, determined to complete all the tasks, while the rest of us trailed behind. Clarissa did take charge and help out…probably because the rest of us were at the bar!

All up a great night. So much fun! That just leaves me with 2 weeks now till the big day! Still so much to do.
So, back to the girls and the wine. Four girls who like wine, try to do an annual wine tour, somewhere around Australia. Last time in was the Hunter Valley, and this time it is the Yarra. And typical, we pick the absolute coldest time of the year to go to Melbourne, in addition, there is the coldest cold snap ever in the entire world! Today was the coldest June day in Brisbane on record, so I can’t even imagine how cold Melbourne is going to be. I am bringing my big suitcase, so that I can fit all my coats and jackets in!
Saturday sees us embarking on an organised tour. The only thing I know, is that we are starting off at Chandon….champagne at 10am. Sounds like the perfect start to a long weekend! The rest of the weekend will involve red wine, brunches and good food. Plus, a visit to the tutankhamun exhibit at the Melbourne Museum. Can’t wait! Fingers crossed that I don’t snap freeze on the weekend…
