After spending most of our time in and around Coolum, it was time to venture further – Perigian Beach. Not even 5kms north of Coolum is the even smaller Perigian Beach. The Perigian Beach Hotel had started us off, yet it wasn't as lively as we had been hoping for. The bar tender regaled us with stories of his younger days, as we were clearly the youngest patrons he had. As the wind began to pick up, we decided to do a reconnaissance mission into town for a dinner location (aka across the road) before the storm hit.

Perigian is a beautiful beachside town, with a tiny main street, beside a 'square' with shops and restaurants surrounding it. With only a small number of places to choose from, we booked at the only place available, Zachary's. And even then it was an hour wait, so we headed to the local surf club.

We sat, watching the storm roll in at the Perigian Surf Club drinking wine that should be more expensive than it actually is. Gotta love clubs! Dinner was at Zachary's, which looked to be a local institution. It was pretty busy, even for a Friday night before NYE, yet it didn't disappoint. The gourmet pizzas were fabulous, and a good selection of red wine to warm us up after the slightly gale force winds coming off the ocean. It's a pity we weren't staying closer, as I quite like Perigian. And as it turned out, there was no storm. Just a little rain. All that hype for nothing.
