As much as I love my jeans & tshirt, I do love to dress up and wear pretty shoes. And a wedding is the perfect excuse. Plus, Moloney family weddings are so much fun. Everyone drinks & everyone dances. I come from a fairly big extended family (I have around 23 cousins on mums side!) and so when we get together, all bets are off. Aside from the usual dramas that come with a family of this size, it was a fantastic day.
Trev and Caley's wedding was being held right on the ocean in Warnnambool, a town of 30,000 people. Beachside weddings can be a bit of a gamble in Victoria but this wedding hit the jackpot. It was a perfect day of sunshine and warm tempartures, and during the ceremony people even got sunburnt. (Meanwhile as I write this, sheets of horizontal rain are slamming into the house). The venue was Bluehole, a place unknown to many, except that it was down by the water. Decked out with white Bali flags, it was a stunning venue.
The ‘official’ part of the day was short, but gorgeously sweet. The bride was beautiful and the groom was handsome and nervous. Their 2 kids (aged 2 & 3) were in the wedding party, but much preferred to run around entertaining themselves and the rest of the guests. My cousins Sonia and Loretta both did speeches; Sonia’s hilarious and referencing Dr Seuss and Winnie the Pooh, and Loretta with one that made everyone cry.
After the official part of the day was over we headed to the Warnambool Surf Club, the destination for the remainder of the night. The Surf Club is on a hill overlooking the beach, and had a deck that was pretty much the favorite spot for anyone with a drink during night. It helps that Victoria has daylight savings and hence you can savour your drink in the sun for a lot longer, as it doesn't get dark till around 9pm.
The bridal table was upfront, and all 3 groomsmen at the table were 'with child' – one had just had a baby that morning, throwing a slight spanner in the works. There were fabulous speeches throughout the night where both the bride and groom were suitably embarrassed by stories of drunkenness or nudity – or both. Then the night kicked on, and as is customary at any Moloney event the shoes came off & the dancing began. The bride included. We finished up around 1am after the bride and groom showed us all their matching 'bride' and 'groom' underwear.
Sunday morning saw everyone gathering for the standard morning after breakfast (where the 'new dad groomsman' rocked up still in his suit, still unable to get home & see his new baby). As the rain began to hammer dow, the most common statement was 'Thank god the wedding was yesterday'.
Thanks to Trev & Caley for letting me be part of your special day, and for anyone reading this, apologies in advance for the numerous wedding shots to follow…
Perfect!! well said hayles!
