I have found a girl after my own heart – someone else who enjoys a birthday festival! This past weekend I found myself engaged in various activities to celebrate the Festival of Steph.

Friday night (the night before the actual birthday) we bundle ourselves into 4 wheel drives & head to the other side of the island to enjoy the delights of a floating restaurant. We jump in a longtail boat & head off to our restaurant. Literally on the water & unattached to land, we disembark onto the moving platform & make our way to the table, avoiding the tanks of assorted animals that the have on 'display', including sharks & blowfish.

Dinner was excellent, and so reasonably priced for the amount of seafood we ate. Perhaps not so much choice for our solo vegetarian! After many drinks we decided it would be a good idea to venture out for yet another drink in Phuket Town, a place I haven't been in 5 years. We stopped in at Route 69 and listened to some live music before hitting the wall & heading home. After all, we needed to conserve our energy – the festival was continuing Sat night.

Saturday night – no point in heading to the club before 11pm apparently – something that is very foreign to those of us from Australia who usually just go to the pub. We were heading out to Famous, the most exclusive club on the island with the usual entry price of THB800 ($25). The amazing Angela had managed to get us in for free by pointing out to the managers that the birthday girl was a volunteer – one of the perks of working for nothing I guess!

The club is situated on the top of the shopping centre. Inside is a bar and upstairs is a roof top beach club, complete with swimming pool and cabanas. Pretty stunning. It wasn't long before the shots began (after we taught the poor barman how to pour a 'cowboy' shot), and people began swimming. There was a slight delay after discovering that someone has dropped a glass in the pool – a hazard to be expected I guess when you mix drunk people and a swimming pool – but then it was on. While I didn't swim, I was entertained by those who were…and by the Russian girls dancing in bikinis on the bridge across the pool. Only one injury was for the evening (resulting from someone being thrown in, not a glass injury surprisingly) and the night ended with me dancing on a box…at a nightclub in Bangla Rd….at 3am…..again.

Happy birthday Steph!
