This week it's all about the beach. Technically it's the rainy ('green') season, but the weather the past couple of weeks has been nothing short of perfect, necessitated many many trips to visit the ocean.
It was time to leave our local, so venturing north we headed for Nai Yang, a beach that is much calmer than Kamala. Plonking ourselves on sun lounges, we met up with friends & enjoyed beers in the sun. Yes, beer. We watched kite-surfing & people more energetic than us walk along the beach and explore the forest….I just enjoyed my beer! Following 'beers in the sun' is always 'dinner in the sand'. Interesting feeling when you are halfway through a meal & the waves splashing over your feet!
After the lazy casual Sunday at Nai Yang, it was time to go more 'hi-so' (high society!) the following weekend. Angela had friends in from Singapore, so we hit 2 beach clubs in 2 days with them.
Saturday was Xana, situated in the major resort complex of Angsana Laguna. With a huge pool on the beach, it was surrounded by all the gorgeous people who were currently visiting Phuket…and who knew it. Dress code was black/skimpy bikini & a hot tan with gold jewellery. All while holding your glass of wine, leaning on the edge of the pool looking at the ocean. Swanky & beach chic. Clearly I didn't fit in sporting my helmet hair & layer of exhaust fumes from the drive over, but wasn't about to let that stop me. An awesome mix of music, mainly dance music, was pumped put of stereo's strategically placed around the pool. We snagged a cabana & didn't move for the next 4 hours. Why would you when Ian, our attentive barman, brought us everything we could need!
Sunday was Bliss. Bliss Beach Club that is. A more laid back & less pretentious venue we found ourselves a couch on the deck & promptly ordered champagne. As well as a deck & pool, there was also a large grassed area with giant bean bags to flop down in & read the latest 'Fifty Shades of Grey' book. Turns out I actually knew people there – I'm turning into such a local! There was a DJ playing super cool tunes which just made you want to dance a little & I was very sad to leave in the late afternoon as it was super pretty watching the sun go down. Better put dusk drinks at Bliss on my to do list 🙂
