I was excited to get to Bolivia. Peru was great, but Bolivia still seemed like a destination that isn’t in everyone’s list. We did a super easy border crossing and stopped at Copacobana…cool name right 🙂
I think I fell in love with Bolivia instantly. Even though we had just been staying on the other side of Lake Titicaca, the landscape seemed different somehow. The lake was clearer & bluer and there were trees! Sounds crazy but trees are like a previous commodity up this high.

After spending a couple of nights in Copacobana we headed for Isla del Sol (Island of the Sun) for a night. The plan was to get dropped at the north end of the island and walk the 8kms to the south and stay there overnight. Let me again remind you how difficult it is to hike at altitude. This time we were the highest we had been at 4000m. Pia and I constantly stopped to catch our breathe….whilst in reality we would say we were stopping to admire the view… In fairness the view was spectacular.

We stayed in Yumami for the night, where the locals did not seem happy at all to have tourists in there town…even the hostel owners who were making money out of us. It became almost a running joke to try and find 2 things in town…change for a large note and chicken for ANY meal. Clearly the chickens had smartened up and left the island. The donkeys hadn’t though and as we relaxed on the balcony overlooking the snow capped mountains of Bolivia we were constantly interrupted by the awkward braying of a donkey.
