As usual, the big cities become a ‘fill-in’ between other more exciting places. But I liked La Paz. The biggest city in Bolivia, it is seated in a massive valley with stunning views. As we drove down the steep slopes to get into the city itself I couldn’t help staring at the 6000m snow topped mountain behind the city. It was spectacular.
Our time in La Paz was varied and included such random activities such as wrestling, German food and walking on the surface of the moon. Let me explain…
Wrestling seems to be a popular pastime in Bolivia, the staged TV show wrestling that you find on a cheesy American sports channel. Only Bolivian wrestling involves women in traditional dress fighting both each other and men dressed in costume. Bizarre. The tourists filled the area directly around the ring while the locals sat behind us, throwing bottles and popcorn at the ‘wrestlers’ they didn’t like. Highly amusing!

We also took to explore ‘The Valley of the Moon’ a strange (insane if you will…see photo) patch of land where the ground looks (supposedly) like the surface of the moon. We spent all the time it deserves (an hour) wandering around…another bizarre outing.
The Germans (aka Pia and Johannes) had been going on and on about German food, so whilst in La Paz we looked up a German restaurant and went out for dinner. It was great, but so much meat!! And beer!
