Mum arrived in early January and wanted to visit Machu Picchu….since she was in the area.

But first that meant coming back to Peru from La Paz. Here’s a photographic representation of that travel time…. I started off with a walking tour of La Paz, something I had missed out on before.

(Standing with the guards at the Royal Palace)

(You can buy ‘Follow me’ powder at the witches market – you only need to throw it at a potential partner and they will follow you for life!)
(I had a farewell dinner with some amazing friends)
And after a very long bus journey, I was back in Peru and mum had arrived!
Naturally she was very tired after 30+ hours flying, however she was a trooper and survived her first few days at altitude with very little drama.

(Ok, she may have been a little crazy in this photo….)

(She brought welcome gifts)
But then it was time for what she had been waiting for…Machu Picchu. I can’t tell you how lucky I am to have vistited this magical place twice.
The day started with a slight drama – the bus to the top wasn’t running on time due to a landslide. We either had to wait, or walk to the top…only around 2km but almost all uphill. And all stairs.
(Minor detail of a landslide)
The following are shots of year day, so that all mum’s friends can see what she got up to…and for my friends who are interested in seeing shots from my second time around 🙂

(The silly poses continue…)

(I may have gotten in on the act….)

We we’re exceptionally lucky to have a beautiful day in the middle of rainy season. It only started raining after we left.

(Notice how Mum has perfected the ‘look into the distance’ pose)
And it was the perfect day for a lunch picnic, except that mum got friendly with the llamas. So friendly in fact that we were forced to move location so they didn’t steal our food!

(Trying to get some shade!)
