Arriving in Bariloche was like arriving in a Swiss ski village. There was a beautiful lake, snowy mountains and lots of wind.
Most importantly, we had finally made it to PATAGONIA!!
It was postcard perfect, made even better by the fact that every second shop was a chocolate shop, literally!
The whole region is famous for beautiful lakes so we figured we’d go biking and hiking a lot. Five minutes outside guaranteed we wouldn’t be doing this. The temperature meant that we did a lot more sightseeing from inside moving vehicles. Usually slow moving vehicles.

(Mate (pronounced mar-tay) mugs on sale at the market. Argentinians are usually glued to their mate which is a bitter tea sipped through a metal straw that they drink ALL THE TIME)
Another slow moving vehicle we took was the gondala to the top of one of the mountains. While the view was spectacular I’m sure the wind had a chill factor of zero!

(At the top of the mountain with the gondala there was a nightclub….with sober people dancing…at midday….with grandparents. I know Argentinians like to have a good time, but really…at lunchtime??)
We traveled further into the mountains to look at an even more Swiss village. They were having a Sunday market and traditional BBQ. They buried everything in a giant coal pit and let it roast away for a couple if hours before serving giant size portions to unsuspecting tourists. Delicious!

Took a bus out to the peninsula to check out the spectacular scenery. I think this was the only time we actually did any real walking! And even then we rugged up and it didn’t last long!

(Imagine this with the mountain covered in snow – how magical!)
