A definite bonus about living in a community of expats is the celebrations and festival I get to be a part of. The 4th of July is no exception.
The excitement and planning by the Americans started at least a month before the actual day. People had even brought American flags, shirts and tattoos home from their last trip to the states. They were going all out. Personally I was struggling to find something red, white OR blue just to wear to work.
(So patriotic!)
After the initial excitement of yelling ‘Merica!’ through the office all day it was down to the beach for sunset drinks and a ‘grill’…aka BBQ.
The group of British, Thai, Singaporean, Australian, Filipino, Dutch, Ugandan and Americans set up the grill and got down to the business of eating burgers and hot dogs (after indulging in delicious Thai starters!) and even got to finish it off with brownies.
(Delicious hand made larb moo)
(Fighting for pride of place in the photo)
(One of these things is not like the other…)

(Mimicking wedding photos happening up the beach)
What 4th July party would be complete without fireworks. We checked our sources (the local Thai beach boys) and had hand delivered $15 worth of fireworks – quite a bit for your money! The night ended with Thai fireworks set off to the singing of American national by our patriotic colleagues….Happy America Day everyone!
(Terrible shot of fireworks through the palm trees!)
