So it turns out that I had the chance to visit Austria AND have my own personal tour guide for 2 weeks. Brilliant!
2 longish flights later and I arrived. While overcast upon arrival I was promised sunny skies in the coming days. The fact that I could see my breathe whenever I was outside should have told me what lay ahead.
(Meet my tour guide!)
Elmar lives just south of Vienna, in the vineyards. Literally. Perfect right! His little village has around 2,000 residents, cute little streets and lots and lots of wine. The added bonus was that the season was turning and the leaves were falling. It was just beautiful. Cold, but beautiful. The restaurants/vineyards have a policy of only opening 200 days per year, so to dictate whether or not they are open, they hang a branch above their door. Adorable.
(Cute little streets!)
(Tom being stunned that you can walk across the train line. Note how close the vineyards are.)
We took a walk through the Vienna woods, which was exceptionally pretty at this time of year.
After all that (50mins) of walking we had to stop for a wine to warm up…
(Strawberry spritzer!)
And then of course there was the walk down….which also had to end with wine. Thank god he lives in the vineyards and you can’t throw a stone without hitting a winery!
