With days to spare we spent a lot of time exploring little villages with names like Duernstein, Modling and Lockenhaus.
(Selfie in a castle)
Sunday, the perfect day for a drive in the country and what better drive than along the Danube and through the most famous wine region in Austria, Wachau.
We stopped in Duernstein, a cute little town built up the steep bank of the river and….with a castle!
The meandered in and out of little shops and tried the schnapps and apricot liquor. And Sturm. A slightly off tasking cider that…aides your digestion! We also stopped in for a traditional Austrian meal… Lots of cold meats, bread, cheese and of course, wine.
(Apricot Schnapps tasting)
We also took in the tourist sites and climbed the hill to the remains of am old castle. There wasn’t much left, but shrouded in cloud it made for a nice walk. And the views must be spectacular when there are no clouds!
Then there is Modling, a beautiful little town with an acquaduct running down from the mountains.
Finally we round it off with Lockenhaus…a small village in the middle of ‘Castle Country’. And yes, it has a castle!
(I had a private concert in the castle. Very lucky.)
(The knight was also impressed with my concert)
