They say write about what scares you, so here goes…

A friend of mine recently emailed me about my move to Austria. She brought up an excellent point which got me thinking.
Moving for love.

As a ‘travel writer’ it almost seems a frowned upon activity. We are free spirits, enjoying adventure and going where the wind takes us. But to move overseas for love, or worse…’settle down’?? Is that in our job description?

Do we live in a stereotype? Cast as an adventurous spirit, carefree and roaming the world, with our clothes full of sand and our passports full of stamps. Chasing the sun. But to stop in one place? I am discovering how I feel about this. And how others feel about it. Even as I write this, I am nervous about the reaction.

But to ‘move for love’ doesn’t mean the end of travel, at least not for me. In my first two weeks in Europe will visit both Hungary and Croatia. For me, it merely means the beginning of a new adventure, but this time I have someone to share it with.
