4 weeks, 12 visitors, countless bottles of wine and 1 wedding and it’s all over. The last of our visitors (my mum) has left the country and I am sad. The wedding festival of 2015 has come to a close. But what a festival it was!

Between all my visitors, they saw a lot of Europe – Austria, Italy, Hungary, Slovakia, Turkey, Germany, Scotland, England, France, Switzerland and the Czech Republic. Some had a whirlwind trip of Europe while others just hung out in Austria. Nothing like a wedding as an excuse for a holiday!

So, the wedding. (For those of you that know the details, feel free to skip over this post!)

Best. Day. Ever.

I don’t want to be one of those brides who gushes about their day, but honestly it was just so much fun. Low fuss and loads of laughs. Mum and dad both walked me down the isle which I loved. The ceremony itself was very lighthearted with my ‘official translator’ doing a fabulous job of translating romantic poems and sayings which left me laughing out loud.

Afterwards, both Elmar and I were treated to a surprise by his friends – all the guests wrote messages on postcards which were then tied to balloons and released. The postcards have already started to be returned to us from all over Austria!

And of course there was the drone filming everything. Thank you Wolfgang!

Then it was time for dinner and drinks. We had given each guest a little bag of Aussie goodies so it wasn’t long before everyone was wearing a clip on koala and attempting to eat vegemite.

The speeches were amazing and included video messages from Australia. A huge thank you to Birgit, my dad and my husband for making me laugh, cry and generally fall in love with my life. Thank you.

Being in Vienna, I couldn’t get away with not doing a waltz as a first dance. I was nervous and sure that I would stumble and look ridiculous. But, I was hit with another surprise – instead of the fast paced Blue Danube Waltz that we had planned, Elmar changed to a slow song so that I was able to keep up. It was perfect.

After the ‘formalities’ we hit the dance floor till after midnight.

So that’s the brief version. I have to say a huge thank you to everyone who made the day so amazing. It was so wonderful to be able to share the day with old and new friends. And to my family, I can’t believe I am lucky enough to have you all. Flying across the world for me. Thank you.

And to my husband, thank you for such a fabulous day. And for being so wonderful and putting up with all my family and friends for the past 4 weeks.

Makes me think, maybe everyone needs a wedding once a year just to get everyone together.
